Experienced Attorney Melissa Alden is dedicated to helping individuals and families make sound legal decisions.
Attorney Alden received her Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Massachusetts, School of Law at Dartmouth, in 2008, and has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar and the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, since 2009. In 2019, she received her Master in Law degree (LL.M) in Elder Law and Estate Planning through Western New England School of Law. She has been the recipient of the First Justice Award for Pro Bono Excellence since 2013, and has been recognized on more than one occasion for her community service while serving the Town of Yarmouth as a Police Officer. She has been certified for the Mental Health Panel and CAFL Panel through Court Appointed Public Counsel (C.P.C.S.). She has also been certified by the Probate and Family Court as a Guardian ad Litem, Guardian for Minors and/or Incapacitated Persons, a Special Master, and in Counsel for Servicemen appointments.
Attorney Alden is actively involved in the Cape Cod community. In addition to her practice of law and pro bono work, she is a member of the Cape Cod Elder Abuse Awareness Committee since 2017, has been actively involved in the mentor/mentee program through Cape Cod Young Professionals, and has served as Vice President of the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement for the past two terms.
Prior to her law career, Attorney Alden graduated from the Weymouth Police Academy in 2007 and served as a Police Officer for the Town of Yarmouth until September 2017. During this service, she also served as the representative of Yarmouth on the Domestic Violence High Risk Task Force. In addition, she was proud to participate in many of the community programs as an officer including Crime Watch, Code Enforcement, Bigs in Blue, National Night Out, White Ribbon Day, Special Olympics, Yarmouth Fill-A-Cruiser, Proactive Anti-Crime Unit, and as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). As the Domestic Violence Officer, Attorney Alden learned the effects of domestic violence on victims and their families. She is highly trained in the area of domestic violence and has many years of experience in the investigation and prosecution of these crimes. Attorney Alden has continued to stay involved in this field by teaching Veteran Officers In-Services for the Municipal Police Training Council as well as contract instruction for Hanrahan Consulting, L.L.C.
Attorney Alden is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association; Barnstable Bar Association; National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement; and Community Institute Leadership Class of 2017. She also is a certified SHINE Counselor.
